Frivolous at Last - Fibre Mood Wallys Blouse

Fibre Mood Wallys Blouse

My sewing project of choice lately has been face masks — I’m making them for family and neighbours and enjoying using up all the poor-choice purchases of quilting cotton that I never used for clothing. (Not to add to the mask-making noise that’s out there, but this is the pattern from Craft Passion that I’ve been using for masks and it is really good: it fits well, comes in 4 sizes, and it’s free.) I’ve also made some reusable medical gowns for local midwives.

Amongst all that I managed to turn out this blouse. How ’bout them stripes????

It’s the Wallys Blouse by Fibre Mood. It took me a long while to finish because when I first sewed it together, it was HUUUUUUUUGE. I had to put it in ‘time out’ until I figured out how to rescue it and worked the nerve up to unpick and resew this rather delicate viscose fabric.

I picked up the fabric at a studio sale last year…a local designer was closing up shop and selling off a lot of gorgeous fabrics.

After a LOT of hacking and resewing, it’s still baggy (it’s supposed to be) but wearable. I still feel like I could carve away some extra fabric at the side seams, and those drop sleeves, even after removing 1.5″ from them, still seem too ‘dropped’ for my liking.

But even though I was angry with it for a long while, how can I stay mad when JUST LOOK AT THOSE COLOURS!

It’s a bit fussy to wear, as it needs to be pinned closed at the bust and the tie kinda shifts around a lot. And god knows my hems aren’t straight because this shifty fabric was a bitch to cut properly! But I’m still going to wear it because JUST LOOK AT THOSE STRIPES!

Apologies for not having too much to write. Inspiration and motivation are sorely lacking these days, as I’m sure you can understand. I just wanted to send these happy colours out into the universe.

How are you doing? Sewing like crazy? Not sewing at all?

I hope you are keeping well and staying safe. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. These stripy colours on this wrap top with cuffs is perfect for spring. All dressed up and nowhere to go – yet. Thanks for the fun post. I’ve been cleaning up my studio and sewing only masks and bandannas for everyone. I’m hoping to make an Ilford jacket soon.

    1. Hi Tammy. It’s a good time to get organized, isn’t it? I just made an Ilford Jacket for my husband but haven’t posted it yet. I definitely recommend. 🙂

  2. CUTE top on you!

PS Thanks for the face mask pattern recommendation. My cousin has been cranking simple masks out on a little sewing machine he has. And he’s never sewn before! 🙂

    1. Thanks, Chris! That’s so great that your cousin is learning to sew. It seems like a lot of people are trying that skill out these days, if only because they want to have face masks.

  3. Ooooh, I love it! My sewing has slowed down a LOT since everyone has been at home. I’m supervising school for my daughters. The 12 year old does pretty well on her own, rarely needs me. The 8 year old though… I need to be on top of her constantly to get her work done. It doesn’t help that she has to use the computer so much. It messes with her mood. And then, I need to cook a lot more with everyone at home. So yeah, sewing and knitting time have been reduced to almost nothing. I might be able to cut some fabric out today though so there’s that?

    1. Oh my, you are very busy! That sounds like about two full-time jobs. I can relate to your 8-year-old: being on the computer too much messes with my mood, too. Warm wishes to you & your family.
